Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Eng.Collins Nzovu has today visited Lufwanyama District on a mission to assess the water challenges in the district as Nkana water is to put up a water reticulation system in the district.
Nkana water intends to put up a water reticulation system in the central business district of Lufwanyama from the Katembula dam which will supply the residents.
Speaking when the minister paid a courtesy call on Chieftainess Shimukunami, the Chieftainess has called on the utility company to expedite the works so that the people can have safe drinking water in the face of the drought. She further called for the increases number of boreholes to be sunk and maintenance to be done on broken boreholes in the district.
And Council Chairperson Annie Kapandula has attested to the water shortage in the district, which is a call for works to be done on time, she has emphasized the need to ensure the project is done properly as there is an urgent need for water.
District Commissioner Justin Mwalikwa, said that the water needs in Lufwanyama can not be overemphasized as it is already evident from the drought that the district is facing which has affected the access to clean and safe drinking water.
However Minister of water Development and Sanitation Eng.Collins Nzovu has assured the Chieftainess and the people of Lufwanyama, of the commitment by government to put up the water reticulation in the district to help alleviate the needs for water.
He added that through Nkana water, the government will ensure works are expedited looking at the current situation, Eng Nzovu added that delay in the implementation of works will not be welcome.
