MINES AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT MEETING WITH CARITAS ZAMBIA.

Caritas Zambia hold a stakeholder consultative meeting with Lufwanyama Town Council, the mines and the general public to outline the importance and obligation of the mines in the district in paying taxes to the local Authority.
This follows a particular shortfall of mines remitting tax to the local authority from 2019 to date according to Caritas Zambia.
Speaking during the same meeting Lufwanyama Town Council Chairperson Annie Kapandula called on the mines to continue with the different corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that they were undertaking in the district and further called on mines to do more since the district was vast with some areas not benefiting from the CSR.
During presentations Lufwanyama Town Council Director of Finance, Mr Bwalya Machuta stated that the council, has been facing challenges in identifying small scale mines in the district as most of them have no activity on the ground. Mr Machuta said that out of 277 only six mines have been remitting tax to the local authority.
And members of the community called for more (CSR) which has been concentrated around communities near the mines and not across the entire district. The residents however thanked the two big mines KAGEM and GRIZZLY for the continued support for communities in the district.
