LUFWANYAMA TOWN COUNCIL HELD A STRATEGIC MEETING ON CASH FOR WORK PROGRAM.

Lufwanyama Town Council on Friday 25th July 2025 convened a high-level meeting to evaluate the progress and challenges of the “Cash for Work” program, a key initiative aimed at improving livelihoods through short-term employment in community development projects. The program has so far benefitted 29,523 individuals, each receiving K600, resulting in a total disbursement of K17,369,400.00.
The meeting brought together stakeholders from various government departments, development partners, local authority and community representatives. The primary goal was to reflect on implementation challenges, assess the program’s sociol economic impact, and chart a clear way forward.
Key challenges identified during the meeting included:
•Logistical delays in payment processing.
•Limited coverage in some hard-to-reach areas.
•Inconsistent data reporting at the local level.
•Need for enhanced monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
In response to these challenges, the meeting proposed the following steps:
•Strengthening coordination among stakeholders for efficient delivery.
•Improving digital payment systems to reduce delays.
•Building local capacity to manage and report on program implementation.
The “Cash for Work” program remains a vital component of the Government’s broader social protection framework and a testament to the power of public investment in people centered development.
