The Lufwanyama Town Council wishes to inform the public that it convened a special meeting today to address the Ministerial directive on the urgent identification of suitable land for the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative (PCEI) to build a 2 MW solar PV plant. This initiative forms part of the national agenda to expand decentralized energy access and promote socio-economic growth across all constituencies.
During the meeting, the Council reviewed the technical land identification guidelines provided by the Ministry. These guidelines outline the specific criteria required for PCEI project sites.
After evaluating multiple locations across the district against these criteria, the Lufwanyama Town Council unanimously approved 8 hectares of land in Shimukunami Chiefdom, Katembula Ward, as meeting all required conditions for PCEI development.
The selected land parcel offers favourable terrain, no environmental or legal encumbrances, adequate security conditions, and proximity to suitable power evacuation infrastructure. The Council is now compiling all supporting documentation, including maps, technical assessments, and stakeholder consultation minutes, for timely submission to the Ministry in accordance with the established deadline
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the Council presented proposed projects under the Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP) grant to stakeholders for their review and input. This engagement forms part of the Council’s commitment to inclusive planning and ensuring that community voices shape local development priorities.
Furthermore, the Council also presented the draft Environmental Policy for stakeholder consideration. All stakeholders are encouraged to submit their views and recommendations to support the ongoing environmental policy formulation process.
